From our inception, Ft. Vancouver Knitters Guild has embraced the concept of giving through knitting with our service projects. Our Mission Statement confirms our purpose: to “serve the community through services and donations.”

Our Current Partners and Projects

Making winter wear for the Vancouver Food Pantry this past December 2023 was an incredibly successful project for our Guild. We donated over 500 caps, cowls and scarves and 50 Soap Sacks to Community Kitchen, a food pantry affiliated with Clark County Food Bank.

Every January, Fort Vancouver Knitters Guild members dedicate the month to making Soap Sacks for residents in need of hygeine products. Our effort in 2024 yielded 220 Soap Sacks which were donated to Vancouver's Open House Ministries.

Open House Ministries is a family shelter, housing 100-plus residents a night. More than half of those residents are homeless children. Inorporated in 1986, Open House Ministries has provided shelter, safety and hope to families in need. For more information, visit Open House Ministries website at https://sheltered.org.

Our Guild dedicates an entire month each year to creating these useful hygiene items which are delivered to our local foodbank. In 2023 our guild delivered 50 Soap Sacks to Community Kitchen and 250 soap sacks to Thrive to Survive.

Several years back, Fort Vancouver Knitters Guild became inspired by Stacy Weiner, founder of S.A.C.K. (Supporting ACommunity with Kindness), a grassroots endeavor connecting people world-wide to knit or crochet soap sacks. A fresh bar of soap is then placed in each sack and donated to agencies such as food pantries, homeless shelters and mobile shower sites.
